*|FNAME|*Welcome to the 16th Season. Classes begin September 11th.

September is here and we can't be more excited about the upcoming year. Now, more than ever, CDT continues to be a place for anyone and everyone to have an amazing experience with Dance, Art and Theater. Our faculty is primed and ready with engaging lessons, that will develop your child's technique, artistry and love of their chosen artform.

If we haven't had the chance to meet in person yet, I'm Stephanie Cox the owner of Children's Dance Theater. On behalf of the faculty and staff we are so glad you have chosen us for your child. CDT began in 2007 and has evolved into more than a dance studio. It is my personal mission to make sure that CDT is a place where everyone can feel like the belong. We believe in age appropriateness. We believe that every child should have the opportunity to try and work for a goal. We believe in community and that takes accountability, discipline and compassion.

As a mother of three, with my first born graduating this year, I am not planning on being in the studio teaching as much this year, though I don't think I'll ever be able to step back entirely. I'm very excited to have such a strong team of staff members who are taking on more responsibilities at the studio and I'm thrilled to mentor and empower them as leaders. I'm very excited to continue working on the big picture for the studio and finding more ways to make dance, theater, preschool and art accessible to every child.

A few house keeping things:
I know you are getting swamped with back-to-school information however don't get digital overload!

#1-You can count on 3 emails a month from us. On the first of each month, you will receive an emailed newsletter letting you know everything that is happening at the studio. This can also always be accessed on our website and we will post it in our parent portal.

#2-On either the 1st or the 15th of the month you will receive an email receipt that your automatic payment has gone through or needs attention.

#3-Statements for the next month are sent out sometime after the 25th. A few FAQ about our software, it will always say that tuition is due on the 1st of the month, however we offer a payment option of the 15th. The default payment is the 1st of the month so please be sure you have notified us if you want a 15th of the month payment. Your payment date remains the same year to year UNLESS you notify us. Another question we get a lot is if you have multiple children the software will take your families total amount and split it evenly between both children. So, if one is taking 5 classes and the other is taking 1 class, it will charge them both the same amount. The total monthly payment will be correct, it just allocates it evenly.

#4-Please sign the 23.24 policies and procedures form. Hard copies are available at the desk. We need one from every family.

#5- Engage with us on Social Media If you haven't already join our closed parent facebook group. You can follow us on social media. See the icons at the bottom of this email.

We are so excited to see your child on the first day of class. We re-open Monday September 11th! Be sure to read through this ENTIRE email. It will help you and your dancer feel prepared and confident for the new season.

Each month we will have a calendar of date specific studio events. To see your dancers individual schedule, look in your parent portal.

September is the best time to join our classes.  It lays the foundation for the remainder of the year and gives your child the time to learn the skills needed for an amazing end of the season performance. They will be inspired, learn technique, and grow in their creativity in any of our programs.

Dance Dress Code Reminder

What your dancer wears to class matters. Just like a football helmet is an important part of the uniform, so is your dancers' uniform. The dress code is designed to minimize in-class distractions, encourage discipline and maximize physical ability.  For emergency use, the office does have dance shoes, leotards and hair accessories that may be borrowed.

  • Hair must be up and away from the face in a ponytail, braid or bun. Ballet classes must have a bun.
  • Ballet participants are not permitted to wear skirts, shorts, pants, shirts or legwarmers. The studios are well heated.
  • Boys must be wearing proper dance attire: Black dance pants, black socks, white solid T-shirts, black ballet shoes and/or black tap or jazz shoes. Please see desk for ordering information.
  • Non-Binary dress code: must wear a black leotard, black bike shorts and a black form fitting tee shirt.
  • Girls uniform dress code is: skin tone tights, skin tone leather or canvas ballet shoes, black tap shoes and/or black jazz shoes. Appropriate solid color leotard is required. A dance bag is recommended for all classes.

School Division Classes; All levels: Peacock blue

Conservatory Classes: Pre-Ballet/Jazz Tap Combo: Light Blue, Level 1: Black Cherry, Level 2: Grape, Level 3: Royal Blue , Level 4: Mulberry, Level 5: Black

Jazz, Lyrical, Acro & other classes may wear capris, shorts, jazz pants, over the leotards. Fitted tees and tanks are okay. Jeans are NOT allowed. Keep in mind instructors need to see dancers’ bodies to give corrections.

Hip hop: Dancers wear loose and comfortable clothes they can move in. Please have clean soled sneakers that are only used for dance to avoid tracking in rocks and dirt. NO jeans.

We believe that everyone is an artist. We offer a creative space, designed to inspire, motivate, and encourage artists of every age. Our hope is that everyone who walks through the doors gifts themselves the mental space and freedom to create something beautiful.

We currently have 4 more spots open for our Thursday 5:30-7pm Studio artist class at the Federal Way location!

Set on the rocky coast of Cornwall, England, The Pirates of Penzance JR. begins with a group of pirates who are celebrating the birthday of one of their own, Frederic, who has reached his 21st year. Finally, having served the full length of his required time with the pirates, he decides to strike off on his own and become an upstanding citizen – which may even mean bringing the pirates to justice.
