Little Mermaid Jr. Camp (1)

Youth Camp

Journey "under the sea" with Ariel and her aquatic friends in Disney's The Little
Mermaid JR., adapted from Disney's Broadway production and the motion picture (featuring the enormously popular Academy Award-winning music and delightfully charming book and lyrics). Based on one of Hans Christian Andersen's most beloved stories, Disney's The Little Mermaid JR. is an enchanting look at the sacrifices we all make for love and acceptance. In a magical underwater kingdom, the beautiful young mermaid, Ariel, longs to leave her ocean home — and her fins — behind and live in the world above. But first, she'll have to defy her father, King Triton, make a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula, and convince the handsome Prince Eric that she's the girl whose enchanting voice he's been seeking.

Little Shop of Horrors (1)

Teen Camp

A deviously delicious Broadway and Hollywood sci-fi smash musical, Little Shop Of Horrors has devoured the hearts of theatre goers for over 30 years. Howard Ashman and Alan Menken (Disney's The Little Mermaid, Beauty And The Beast, and Aladdin) are the creative geniuses behind what has become one of the most popular shows in the world.
The meek floral assistant Seymour Krelborn stumbles across a new breed of plant he names "Audrey II" - after his coworker crush. This foul-mouthed, R&B-singing carnivore promises unending fame and fortune to the down and out Krelborn as long as he keeps feeding it, BLOOD. Over time, though, Seymour discovers Audrey II's out of this world origins and intent towards global domination!

Frequently Asked Questions:

What are your attendance policies? Excellent attendance is critical to a good performance. Actors should not plan on missing any days of camp. They will miss critical practice. Other than sickness, Actor need to attend each day and all the performances. Performances are mandatory!

What does my actor need each day of camp? Actors should wear loose comfortable clothes that they can move and dance in. The participants will be very active and should dress appropriately for a busy physical day. Actors also need to bring their script and a pencil each day. A highlighter is also recommended.

Finally actors need to provide their own lunch, snacks and water.
We have a no technology policy for all of our camps. Actors will not need to bring phones, tablets or other devices. In addition to rehearsal we have various projects plan that relate to our camp and other quiet “downtime” activities. Actors may bring other fun quiet activities that they are willing to share with other campers.

How is casting determined? We have a wonderful casting workshop before camp begins. During this workshop all actors will participate in various acting games, cold reads, vocal exercises and be taught some choreography. Don’t worry if your child is new to theater. Our instructors prepare an fun and instructional workshop for the novice and experienced actor.

After the workshop is over, the directors will cast the show. Many factors determine casting. Directors have to take in to account the needs of the show as described in the script. A child’s vocal range needs to be taken into account, we can’t cast a baritone in a soprano role for example. Every effort is made to give every child a part that they can be proud of and will help them grow as an artist and have fun. It is important to encourage your child to have an open mind when attending auditions. Casting results are final

Where is the performance venue?

We are thrilled to return to Knutzen Family Theater in Federal Way for our final 2 days of camp and the performances. On the second to last day camp will be held at the Knutzen Family Theater. Actors will get a chance to work in the stage space and practice the show a few times. The final Friday of camp is our dress rehearsal at the theater. There is no early drop off or late pick up these days.

How much are tickets? In person tickets to the performance are $20. Tickets are in addition to camp tuition.

How do you communicate to parents about important camp details? We pride ourselves on a high level of organization and communication. Once you register for camp your information will be entered into our database. This will enable us to send you periodic emails until camp begins. Once camp begins, we use an App called Team App. This gives you direct access to the directors. You will find all camp related documents, schedules, and notices in team app. In team app you will also find access to our closed facebook group. This group is for registered guardians of actors only. Directors will use this group to post videos of camp activities and it is a helpful practice tool also, especially with choreography. Please make sure that all posts, questions and concerns are helping to gain clarification in a positive manner. Of course, it is always great to speak with the directors directly also!

What does my actor wear for the performance? Our theater camp culminates in an amazing performance. Actors may be asked to provide a “base” costume, typically items that can be found in their closet or inexpensively. Our costumer provides the specialty needed costume items for each character. These items are “one size fits most”, such as a vest and a hat that is appropriate for the character. This information is given to actors at the casting workshop and is our team app. Actors will need to provide their own undergarments and footwear. Dance shoes are typically recommended. We offer a 30% discount to registered campers if they buy the shoes from our inventory.

Do you video tape the performance? Yes, we will be recording the performance in house this year and enrolled participants will be able to download one digital copy as a part of the camp fee. Additional downloads may be purchased.

Is previous experience needed? Not at all, what is more important is a willingness to try something new and be a little silly! Our directors are seasoned teachers who are able to teach a variety of levels and incorporate the special skill and uniqueness of each child into the show. If your child has previous experience that is wonderful also. Our directors will help them take their performance skills to the next level. But don’t just ask us, here are some great testimonials from parents of previous camp participants.
